William Hilliard letter to the Board of Visitors of the University of Virginia, [manuscript] 1826 July 11.

Hilliard writes to tell the Board of Visitors that, since the death of Thomas Jefferson, he has been--at the direction of the Faculty--unpacking the books imported for the University of Virginia Library. Hilliard presumes that the original catalog, invoices and correspondence relating to the book purchases have been given to the Board by Jefferson's heirs. He states that he adhered to Jefferson's limit of $10,000 for purchases, and thus many titles on the list were not purchased. He directs future requests to his agent in Charlottesville.
